Moon Sighting Report Dhul Hijjah 1430

Assalamu ‘Alaikum,

Alhamdu Lillah the moon was sighted today in South Africa and Saudi Arabia have also announced that they have confirmed reports of sightings and therefore the blessed month of Dhul Hijjah 1430 will begin tomorrow, Wed 18 November 2009, with Eid Al Adha (10th Dhul Hijjah) on Friday 27 November 2009.

Hadith of the Day – A man who buys meat not knowing whether it has been slaughtered or not

Malik informed us:

“Hisham ibn ‘Urwah informed us that his father said, ‘The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings be upon him) was asked, “Messenger of Allah, people from the country come here with meat and we do not know whether they mentioned the name [of Allah] over it or not.” The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Say the name of Allah over it and then eat it.”’” He [Malik] said, “And that was in the beginning of Islam.”

Muhammad [ibn Al-Hasan Ash-Shaybani] said: “We adhere to this, and it is the verdict of Abu Hanifa if the person who brings it is Muslim or one of the People of the Book. If a Majusi [Zoroastrian] brings it and he mentions that a Muslim slaughtered it or a man from the People of the Book, he is not to be believed and it is not to be eaten in reliance on his statement.”

Assalamu ‘Alaikum,

Alhamdu Lillah the month of Dhul Qa’dah 1430 has started today Tuesday 20 October 2009. The moon was not sighted on Sunday and therefore we completed 30 days of Shawwal.

Hadith of the Day – Be Mindful of What You Say

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:

“A man says what is pleasing to Allah and he does not suspect that it will have the result that it does, and Allah will write for him His good pleasure for it until the day when he meets Him. And a man says what excites the wrath of Allah and he does not suspect that it will have the result that it does, and Allah will write His wrath for him for it until the day when he meets Him.”
