Just a note to remind people that we have today entered the month of Rabi Al-Awwal. It is the blessed month in the which the best of creation, the leader of the righteous, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was born.
Although we do not ‘celebrate’ the birth of the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) as such, it is advisable that we pick up the books of Seerah to re-visit the life of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to take lessons from it, to make abundant Durood upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and try and implement more of the Sunnah in our lives.

[dear bro jashim, plz ignore my earlier post]
Assalamu Alaikum,
Just noticed this blog and would like to say that you have chosen some very interesting topics.
I would just like to point out one thing brother. Sunni muslims throughout the world actually do ‘celebrate’ the birth of the holy prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). They may not do it in the manner and style that birthdays are celebrated in general and in the west, but they do commemorate the holy birth of the holy prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).
The scholars who you have quoted on your blog (ie. shaykh gibril, shaykh hamza, shaykh bin bayyah) all practice the mawlid, but the mawlid is not a general birthday celebration.
I thought you might have realised that from deenport. however to say in general that we do not celebrate the birth of the prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is a wahabi trait, and it sounds like you are speaking for sunnies in general, but if you had said “although we deobandi’s do not celebrate………………………” then readers would know where you are coming from. Deobandi’s are the only group of sunni muslims that do not practice the mawlid.
Plz do not think that i am having a go at you, as it is clearly not my intention. Do forgive me, if my words have hurt your feelings in any way whatsoever. I am neither trying to imply that the deobandi’s are wrong not to practice the blessed mawlid, but simply trying to express that your words sound like you are speaking on behalf of the majority of sunni muslims….barakallhu feek
wassalaam,
Was Salaam Brother Mustafa – Jazak Allahu Khair for your comments and I agree with you 100% when you say that Yes Sunni Muslims do commemorate the birth of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and that we do not do it the way the non-muslim celebrate their birthdays; and this is exactly what I intended when I said that ‘Although we do not ‘Celebrate’ the birth of the Prophet (peace be upon him) as such’.
I think commemorating the birth of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is quite different to celebrating just his birth day on it’s own without the commemoration of his life and teachings – which is what Sunni’s do and what others misunderstand and hence sometimes out of ignorance attack the blessed Mawlid.
Thanks again for your comments. Keep us in your dua.
